Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
Rotational scheme, our day to day work contributes to the success of the business and we are given real responsibilities from day 1. We also have the confidence and authority to work on improvement projects which can change the fundamentals of how the business operates, for example to reduce cost or time in processes or increase the safety and quality of our operations.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I enjoy the program greatly as it allows you to develop lots of different skills and contribute to the business. Apprentices are extremely valued within GE Aerospace. I enjoy the different projects we can work on in rotations and in our enrichment activities. For example, being given the opportunity to plan the apprentice residential.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I have learnt to present confidently, negotiate and lead people though change. My communication skills have improved massively as well as my time management and organisation skills. This development has come through on scheme development and my academic work.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
The business degree scheme is well organised and is a mature scheme. This means it has a good reputation within the business and lots of alumni to provide support to current apprentices on scheme.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
Support is given to the scheme from all levels in the business, including the site lead.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
The university element is taught offsite at the UoG Oxstalls Campus. Outside of the teaching days, support can be hard to find, however this has been raised and is improving gradually.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
The degree improves your business acumen and makes you think more when in certain work situations. The key development comes when you are able to apply your teachings to your work life.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
Yes, enrichment teams. For example, planning the annual apprentice residential or attending airshows like RIAT and Paris Air Show.
