Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
When I started the apprenticeship I was a training within Leadership at Merseyside Police Academy part time. This role involved training in class on a regular basis generally daily and with responsibility for the Forces Coaching and Mentoring Programmes. Hence why I completed the apprenticeship in coaching and mentoring. After a year or so I moved roles to training coordinator on the Police Race Action Plan and 5 months later to my current role of Training Manager for Leadership which involves managing all leadership training for the force and all non specific training too.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I really enjoyed my experience on the programme. I learnt so much and met new contact and was totally supported by Ioda through illness and changing roles and have not long actually been through gateway.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
Although I am from a Leadership background I was surprised how much I learnt on the apprenticeship and areas of Leadership that I revisited. The training was excellent and the staff delivering the training were very supportive. I was also given a coach throughout the process who was brilliant. I had only trained people for coaching styles of Leadership and coaching conversations before not actually conducted formal 121 coaching. Putting in place the models I previous knew, plus the ones I learnt brought coaching to life for me. I developed massively in coaching as mainly I had mentored previously and had to learn not to advice and guide so that was a challenge. The techniques I was taught and the practice we had was so good. I was a bit reticent of on line training for a qualification but it was excellent.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
It was very well structured, each module was clear and what was required in terms of assessments etc. The only area I felt was different for me was that my structure was different to the rest of the class due to my part time working which was great for my personal situation as I was allocated more time but I did feel a bit different to the rest of the class.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I did receive support from my employer but if I am honest I did struggle with the requirements of an apprentice and completing my role. This was not through lack of support though more that I felt working part time and doing an apprenticeship I had to put more effort into my work.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
I had a lot of support from Ioda, from the team, trainers and admin and especially my Coach, When I fell behind through illness I was totally supported.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
I think it has provided the knowledge, developed my skills and understanding of coaching which has enabled me to coach effectively and I am now part of a collaboration coaching network for the emergency services,
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
Yes the blue light collaboration, there also lots of sports teams and social activities.
