Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
My previous role covered admin and reception duties at Merseyside Police Training Academy. I had to cover the reception desk, raise purchase orders, produce registers for upcoming training courses and greet visitors that came for training.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I have always enjoyed being proactive and busy with work. Working for Merseyside Police has been challenging and rewarding for me. I do sometimes struggle to communicate with my colleagues and feel emotional drained. However, I have enjoyed the opportunities and knowledge of using Smartforce Oracle and liaising with the trainers. It was worth doing.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I have learnt how to communicate differently to internal and external customers and learnt how to use Smartforce Oracle to export officers' and staffs' details to put on the registers and to order stationery items. My team working skills have developed also.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
Overall, I I think my apprenticeship was well organised, the tutor was keeping me on top and made sure I was hitting my deadlines and made good suggestions to add to my log book. Communication between the apprentices and training are overall good and made me more comfortable to do my end point assessment.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
As someone who is neurodiverse, I have received all the support needed throughout my apprenticeship from my employer and tutor. They respond quite quickly to my queries and questions. I have also had 1 to 1s with my employer, always checking if I am comfortable in the work environment and whether there are any problems within and outside of work.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
I have received continuous support from my tutor when it came to finishing my apprenticeship. Internal courses and training was provided and occasional 1 to 1s were provided to talk about my well being and the progress made with college. After finishing the apprenticeship, I achieved a pass and was skilled within admin.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
Gaining my qualification has enabled me to apply my interpersonal skills and gain a deeper understanding of working for Merseyside Police. I have been working at Merseyside Police for 4 years now and I am more confident and proactive with problem solving and being organised.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
3/5
There are many sport activities available within the organisation, however I am not that interested in partaking with a sports team. I have only volunteered to assist the Unison team at HQ with verifying that financial statements, transactions, and processes are accurately recorded and reflect the true financial position of the organisation. There haven't been many other activities that have interested me or helped me progress within the organisation.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Merseyside Police to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Merseyside Police is committed to being an inclusive organisation, which is important for me as I have autism and sometimes struggle with communicating. It is a great force with many to connect with and get the opportunity to apply for new roles, whether you are staff or police officer. It is a great way to acquire unique skills whilst making a difference for the community.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Merseyside Police?
Honestly, there is not much I can think of for advice. But I suppose that if anyone is trying to apply for an apprenticeship then if you hold a degree, you have a better chance of entering the programme like I did. It's important to communicate all the time and meet Merseyside Police's goals. Familiarise yourself with their strategies and goals so you understand their needs and take your role seriously.
