Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
3/5
I am the audit senior on audits. I am the main point of contact for our clients and manage other staff internally through the planning, fieldwork and completion stages.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I do enjoy the apprenticeship. It brings together my work and studies which is great.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I have picked up many skills during my apprenticeship and work. I joined as a school leaver so I have developed nearly all of my skills. Working with different people and clients has definitely developed my communication and leadership skills.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
The structure is a little complicated. Study often disrupts work/audits which can have a negative impact however as a whole it is structured well. One point to make is that the study side is structured well only for those who pass all exams first time. It is not made for those who fail some.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
A lot of support is received from my employer. They have been great with me during my apprenticeship
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
We have study, revision and mock exam days with our study provider. The training is good - I wouldn’t say fantastic as there are a lot of different things I would change to make it better
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
I think the knowledge and insight into the areas I directly do day to day and other areas I don’t see from an academic side really helps.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
Many. We have a young work force so there are many activities to be involved in aswell as networking events. We have a weekly 5 aside team in a corporate league. I would say for a young professional it is a great place to work.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend BHP to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I think in terms of training and getting a good start in to an accounting career it is a great place to work. Any school leavers or grads I would recommend to do there training here. If it was someone qualified looking to join I probably wouldn’t recommend it.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BHP?
In my role, being able to get on and communicate with other staff and clients is one of the most important things. I would look at building these skills and being personable when applying for my role
