Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
I work as a trainee on different audits of government departments. This involves the planning stage and when conducting the audit substantive testing and test of controls.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I really enjoy my role at the NAO and I think they offer a good programme. More recently, there has been more involvement in educating the wider office on the programme.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
My apprenticeship has allowed me to develop my technical skills through using new software and utilising complex data.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
I think the majority of the programme is well structured, but it could be slightly improved through having more scheduled review calls with our training provider, BPP.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
The NAO offers very generous study leave while completing the ACA exams. The senior staff are also understanding of the exam pressure as they have sat the ACA exams themselves.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
The NAO offers very generous study leave while completing the ACA exams. For starting the Professional level exams, we will have extra tuition with BPP.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
I think the ACA helps me to perform better in my role. The Level 4 Apprenticeship was helpful to guide us into the role, however it potentially did not need to last 18 months.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
There are activities in both offices. However, more are based in London.

Yes
Why?
It is a really friendly work environment, where everyone is willing to help out. The audit work is really interesting, especially if you are interested in government spending.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to National Audit Office?
When applying, I would suggest to be yourself, be honest and show your character.
