Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
My individual tasks change day to day depending on what work is required during my time at work but every task I do is specific to my department, which mixes raw materials together in a process containing many types of machinery to create water treatment products which we send out to customers.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I enjoy my programme to a great extent as it helps me to learn something new everyday and meet new people. The programme allows you to learn a lot about others and yourself and it also helps me to build relationships with co-workers and make new friends.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
Working at Solenis has allowed me to improve my skills in teamwork and communication as you work with many different people and can often meet a new face every day. It allows you to meet and understand new peoples ways of working which helps give you an understanding on multiple ways to complete a task. This communication is effective for me as it has helped for an independence in my work as I am aware of multiple professional and effective ways to work.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
The base structure of the programme is good and covers a large spread of the things we need to know and how to go about learning and progressing. However some things may change dependent on certain events and this can not be helped but comes down to communication about structure which is not bad by any means but I would say is an area which can be improved. This is not specific to one person/group this is between the understanding and frequent communication between training provider, employer and apprentices.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
The employer provides sufficient and professional support in which if you require anything they are they to help willingly and time efficiently. There are multiple people you can go to for support and on the whole the support across everyone available is very good and you never feel silly for asking a question no matter what it is.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
The support is there and is good but can vary depending on who it is you require support from, on the whole the support is good and the communication from vast majority of people is good but some are not as good as others but none are less than a 6/7 for support they are just outweighed by the majority who sit at a 9/10. Communication over support is good when it comes to being unsure but communication for events and being kept up to date with possible changes requires improvement.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
I feel my qualification positively impacts my performance in my role as the job teaches me how to complete a task but the training providers course helps me to understand why I do the job and the ins and outs of how the equipment I may be using works. This is good as in the chance something does not go as planned and an out of the ordinary occurrence takes place I have knowledge which could be helpful in overcoming the issue.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
We have sports and social events which take place throughout the year which I am due to experience soon but from others opinions they are great. We offer opportunities for young people to get involved in science based practicals which is helpful in their development as they learn basic skills in team work and creativity. These kids labs are great for the participants and us as we can see which schools take an interest in science and this helps Solenis to build a relationship with the schools. This leads onto our highly successful apprenticeship programme and the kids labs are the first steps to this programme which I took part in and eventually became part of the apprentice programme.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Solenis to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I would recommend Solenis as it is an organization full of positively minded people who are always willing to help you learn and progress providing support along the way. The work the company does would appeal to those interested in chemistry/IT/finance. The company offers jobs and apprenticeships in many different fields. A big factor in a place like Solenis is safety and Solenis recently achieved 1 full year without a recordable injury which led to time away from work. This is a great pull factor as it shows a positive mindset and culture towards safety which is the most important part of any company in this field of work.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Solenis?
I would advise on trying to apply for work experience as it allows you to get an insight into what you would be doing day to day so you can form your own opinion but it also shows the employer that you are willing to work for the company and take a great interest in wanting to be the one chosen for a job.
