Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
Currently, I am engaged in a structured six-month rotation program that allows me to gain comprehensive exposure across various sectors of the business. Each rotation focuses on a different area, including software development, systems , hardware, and sustainment . This rotational approach enables me to develop a well-rounded understanding of the company's functions and processes.
On a day-to-day basis, my role involves actively participating in team projects, collaborating with colleagues from diverse backgrounds, and learning new skills relevant to each sector as I rotate through different areas of the business Im able to develop a broad skill set and a deeper understanding of the company's operations.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
3/5
The program throughout work has been really enjoyable. Not only do we have rotations across different sectors, but the early careers team is also excellent. We have scheduled touchpoints to stay connected, and the company invests in external organizations to enhance team building and expand team knowledge. Additionally, there are opportunities to catch up with people outside the organization to see how we are doing too.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I have learned and developed many skills with GE so far. I have significantly boosted my confidence by engaging with employees across site, delivering presentations, and participating in additional learning activities and team-building exercises.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
The program is structured so that there is always something to work on. The rotation team / managers do a great job of overseeing our activities, offering feedback, and guiding us in the right direction.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
We receive support not only from the Early Careers team but also from the rotation managers and new team members we meet along the way. Everyone is there to help and answer any questions you may have. Additionally, we have learning activities scheduled every few months to help us learn more about the company and stay informed about important updates, such as safety procedures and other vital information.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
Currently, communication in critical areas such as deadlines and last-minute notices about lecturer holidays has been lacking. Additionally, there has been some miscommunication regarding task information, which has been disappointing. Aside from these issues, the lectures are very helpful and supportive. If students are stuck and need assistance, the lecturers are excellent at rephrasing and clarifying information especially in Labs .
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
I've learned a lot at university so far, and it provides me a much deeper understanding of what goes on in tasks at work. One thing, especially in the first year, is that we not only have university lectures but also days dedicated to learning practical skills like soldering and working with DIY electronics. This experience will really help in the labs and improved my understanding
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
There are many activities to participate in, including workplace events that provide opportunities to connect with new employees across the site and network with colleagues.
