Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
I work in the labs testing samples at different points throughout production on site, I also test raw materials and I am training for different analysis constantly.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I really enjoy being independent in the lab and the amount of support and encouragement I get from my colleagues.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I have learnt some new skills and also built on existing ones. The labs are filled with high-tech machinery and I am learning what everything does as well as improving on my current lab skills.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
My programme is somewhat structured, there is no long term goal as such but I meet with my manager every quarter to discuss upcoming goals. I think this is much less stressful.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
my employer is very supportive, always encouraging me and making me feel comfortable and listened too. They also remind me that it's always okay to ask for help.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
I receive a lot of support from my university.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
I feel like furthering my knowledge of chemistry helps to better understand why I do the tests I do in the lab. This helps me to pick up techniques faster and be more efficient.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
There is a lot of networking with the other apprentices which is good because I can hear about different parts of site and make friends.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend GSK to a friend?
Yes
Why?
There is so many opportunities and encouragement to grow your career. Being a young person it can be hard to find a place that will want to teach you. GSK makes me feel like part of the team and not just an apprentice and I have already learnt so much.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to GSK?
Be yourself and try your best. Everyone is so friendly which helped me come out of my shell and show them what I would bring to the team. They are looking for so many different skills and qualities so don't worry if you aren't so good at one part of the application process.
