Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
Within your first year you spend majority of your time at college learning practical skills and logical thinking, and when your at work you carry out routine maintenance, fixing machinery, daily checks and shutdowns.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I really enjoy this programme as it’s made me more confident in my abilities and helped me realise that the hands on experience i’ve gained has been beneficial, and helped me gain many friendships and connections that are for life.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I have furthered my critical thinking skills, analysis skills, problem solving abilities, adaptability, and managed to learn computer science skills.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
The programme is well structured with the first year mostly at college and then you do 6 month rotations in your other years.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
When doing this programme you can recover as much support you need varied from health to educational support.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
We get a lot of support when working towards our HNC as we have reviews every trimester to check in on our academic progress and how we are finding it, and if any adjustments need to be put into place.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
2/5
I think that the college is a good way of gaining physical skills with tools and baseline knowledge of the job role itself, however sometimes the knowledge we are taught can struggle to link back to the job itself.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
When working at GSK there are various social events you can go to and meet other apprentices and in the first year you go away to the lake district to meet other apprentices from around the country and globe. There is also social clubs and fitness clubs on most sites, and you are encouraged to join and help out with events and extra curricular activities. The networking and professional events are also beneficial as you work on your public speaking skills and you get help throughout this process.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend GSK to a friend?
Yes

What tips or advice would you give to others applying to GSK?
One tip i give is to be yourself and just go for it as you won’t know anything is possible if you don’t give it a try. The company wants to know you for you so be yourself.
