Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

I’m responsible for creating new and improved automation tools for engineers like me to ease the manual workload and allow engineers to work on more complex tasks. I’m responsible from start to finish all the documentation, development, testing and maintaining of each project I create. Also including maintaining existing projects and improving where possible. Bug fixing whenever tickets come through.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I enjoy the programme a lot as you get hands on practical experience trying out practice examples seen from what you’ve learned on the theory lectures. I get assignments where I express my understanding on what I learnt.
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

Learnt how to write code in a more efficient way. Have loads of experience with different modules and use cases. Went on courses like Palo Alto firewalls and learnt about configurations. Existing and known skills like Linux, programming languages like python. Learnt how to use all router makes like Cisco, arista and juniper for my projects.
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

Very well planned and organised. There’s planned meetings with skills coach on a monthly basis and quarterly with skills coach and manager. A full schedule is given and updated what modules are thought next with upcoming changes if sudden things change. Support is always available via apprenticeship email.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

As much as possible. I ask around my colleagues if I ever need help and understanding some things I’ve never experienced or it’s a world problem. Any extra learning paths is readily available and can be proposed to your manager
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

A simple email or video call is easy to arrange and talk about the support needed. There’s always ways to get support there’s no blockers.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

I get more understanding each time and gain confidence in what I’m doing on a daily basis at work.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

Yes plenty, there’s events available to participate in charities and locally funded communities. Networking events based on your skills are happening monthly and you can present suggestions on what improvements can be done.

Tons of opportunities and this is a big step into the big world. You can get a lot of experiences and chances to participate in very interesting projects

Stand out from the crowd. Do extra learning on the side. Even if it means show the work you’ve done that could be interesting.
