Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
My role consists of producing sensible and ethical engineering design and documentation to help the different working team around Airbus.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I really enjoy my work as problem-solving and coming up with new ways of designing something interests me.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
Stress calculation, CAD design, drawing & Assembly. Soft communication and presentation skills

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
1/5
Although the programme is complete. it's not organised very efficiently. Students do not get good introductions in terms of what is expected of them for the level 4 apprenticeship and Uni modules. It is left for the apprentice to discover, and they usually end up having to interpret what is required for them from assessment briefs. Good introductions are not provided by level 4 assessors but rather students are encouraged to 'just start' this might be due to the fact how quickly assessor leave their jobs and new ones get introduced. No one is sure how and what apprentices have to complete for their level 4.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
Their is a support available from the employer. Apprentices just have to speak up and they will be offered support.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
2/5
This entirely depends on the lecturer, assessor and modules. Some modules for the degree are adapted every year and some lecturers do seem to have not spent enough time to understand the coursework or the specific points of it. This happened last year and this year as well, it can be directing learners to the wrong direction as well. Some level 4 assessors do also judge your working ethic trying to focus on 'balancing' work rather than helping you complete the unit criteria.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
1/5
Whatever I have learnt through my degree has not been applied for my role, rather I have learnt stuff at my role that I am applying to the qualification. The CAD software used by the training provider is completely different to the one used in the role, it is worse when apprentices are left on their own to learn the CAD software by the training provider to apprentices who have never done CAD before. Some lecturers do not provide good feedback to coursework or formative assessments even though they have not scored high marks. I assume if someone has not scored very highly there is room for improvement, but this can be improved upon only if feedback and support is provided, and some lecturers are unable to do that.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
There is the Fellows league where a football team can be formed and you can play around with other business of the sector or even against other Airbus teams. Airbus organises a lot of activities for outside of work hours and employees and apprentices can join.
