Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

My current work at collage is in my Maintenance course, this includes disassembly and assembly, and finding any faults in the engineering assemblies that I deal with. My current bread and butter are 3 phase motors that are connected to either a gearbox or a pump, although I have recently branched out into petrol engines.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I enjoy it greatly, as I have quickly adapted to the new environment, and I never quite enjoyed school, but now in my apprenticeship I am allowed to florish.
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

My skillset has increased dramatically, since before this, I had never really had any form of job, especially in the world of engineering. Key skills that I have developed include my Timekeeping, Problem Solving and my technical knowledge.
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

The program is well structured, allowing me the appropriate amount time to understand and develop my skills with each subject.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I receive plenty of support from my employer, with many provided gateways to help and assistance when I may need it. Whether this be by word of mouth or an email. There are also mental health awareness days provided by my employer throughout the year, which often provide extended breaks to allow employees to wind down a little.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

Support is provided as required by GET, there is also a high level of trust between student and instructor on the shop floor too.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

The time at the training provider (Gloucester Engineering Training) allows me time to hone in my skillset before I am placed into the workplace, therefore allowing me to be a better employee with a greater skillset, than if I had entered the workplace completely fresh from school, especially for younger apprentices, such as myself.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

At DOWTY (GE Aerospace) there are many social clubs that are held at their social club near Staverton Airport, including many sports alongside a slot car club! There are also many networking events that are held throughout the year, announced via company wide e-mails. GE also send out consistent emails to inform us of new club ideas.

GE Aerospace offers a highly respectable qualification within an equally respectable company that gives many benefits to those who work there, offering ways to work their way up the ladder. It is a privilege of mine to be able to work for General Electric, a company that takes care of it's employees.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to GE Aerospace?
Try and stand out above the rest, these apprenticeships will be highly sought out, for a good reason, and to ensure that you get the job
