Overview of Experience

Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
The Insight Week involved a broad range of activities, from meeting the Analytics, Sales, and Data Science teams, discovering the Terminal's functions alongside their representatives, to creating a team project on a financial topic (in my case, on the pandemic's effect on commodities' prices). We also had some some activities brushing up on our public speaking abilities, a simulation of some tasks typical for a day at office, and a team-building activity.
What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
All the roles were extensively explained to us and I found out that there are a lot more opportunities to progress in your career than the ones I knew about. Promotion is something which can happen quickly, if you are good enough, at Bloomberg, and I was also glad to find out some new aspects about other products of Bloomberg. I also enjoyed to learn how, besides the Terminal, many electronic trading tools and not only are also offered.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
I did improve my general knowledge of financial markets, especially by exploring the commodities markets and the Fintech innovations, covered by my colleagues in their projects. Of course, the Terminal facilitated all this, so I got to explore it a lot - I am sure this will also help me in the future! I also worked on my capacity to work within a team, on my confidence level when I speak in front of a crowd etc.

Company Culture

How would you rate business leader involvement during the insight
5/5
What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
I was impressed with how friendly everyone was. The company culture values diversity a lot, even this programme was dedicated to women, as well as environment protection, with Bloomberg's London office being among the most sustainable in the world. At the end of the week, we also had a mindfullness session, this proving again that mental health is something always taken into consideration. Parental leave also has its advantages at Bloomberg.

Overall Experience

To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
I strongly enjoyed it - Everyone was so friendly and the people attending the week belonged to very diverse backgrounds, having very different experiences, this allowing me to make more valuable networking and to generally learn more. I also liked that we got to speak to team leaders as well, despite their probably very busy schedules. I was glad to discover that there is also mobility within Bloomberg and that, if I joined the company, I could explore more departments.

Would you recommend Bloomberg to a friend?
Yes
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Bloomberg
My advice would be to research the company very well before and ALL its products. Also, it is important to truly know what each department does (names such as "Analytics" can be misleading). Also, sectors such as Bloomberg Philantropics make the company unique, so it is good to know about them! During the week, do not hesitate to ask many questions and try to also think of them ahead of the meetings!
