Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
Creating, developing and maintaining construction time schedule programmes for Mechanical and Electrical installations. Programmes created from Bid stage through to handover stage, outlining the key tasks to completion which are assigned working hours as part of the construction budget which are tracked and reported on as the project progresses.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
3/5
I enjoy my apprenticeship highly as it has introduced me to a wide range of different people which has resulted in great personal development. Also, I have had the opportunity to visit various parts of the UK that I would not have otherwise visited as well as having the opportunity to experience sites on exciting buildings before the public has access.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I have developed my technical knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems that are seen in a wide range of building types within the United Kingdom and what is involved in creating comfortable human environments. Also my communication skills and personal confidence has increased through working on various sites / teams

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
The programme is very well organised by the company. The structure is very clearly outlined at the beginning of the apprenticeship and features sufficient time for college, work in your primary role and time across various placements within the business. Flexibility is offered to work more or less time in area you personally feel requires more or less focus too.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
I receive a lot of support and from a wide range of angles. I feel as though I have a lot of people that I can turn to for support on all sorts of issues / instances. Communication between myself and the supporting staff that I have around me is regular which keeps me on track constantly.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
I receive sufficient support from the training provider when it is needed. I have various communication methods with the right people and feel as though I can get in contact at any time I need.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
I feel as though my qualification helps me well in my role as it has provided me with a sufficient level of both technical knowledge and general knowledge of the construction industry as a whole. This has allowed me to develop programmes more accurately and engage further in the changes that occur on an M and E install.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
Yes, there a lot which are offered which we have 2 days allocated to take at our choosing to be used for volunteering, such as visiting schools to speak about what it is like to be an apprentice employed by NG Bailey and helping out at local food banks which I have undergone myself.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend NG Bailey to a friend?
Yes
Why?
The structure of the apprenticeship is thorough and sets you up well to be competent in your role when you qualify which ultimately sets you on track to advance within the industry and perform at a high level and reap the rewards of this.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to NG Bailey?
Be patient with the application process as it may feel long compared to other companies' applications but is likely to be worth it and if it doesn't work out, the stages that you go through will equip you well for applications elsewhere. Also make sure to take time to research the company, the job role you are applying for and what the mechanical and electrical industry involves.
