Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
3/5
performing flight servicing and maintenance to Army helicopters
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
3/5
work can be slow at times, however additional apprenticeship work, such as NVQs and exams mean i am constantly busy.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I have drastically improved my hand skills such as wire locking. I have also learned a lot about the aircraft and aircraft systems as a whole.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
as a whole, the programme is structured reasonably well. the first year of the course is structured into a daily schedule so I know exactly what my task is for the day. the second and third year are slightly less structured with placements on different sites across the UK. these Locations are not confirmed until around 6 weeks before moving.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
support from apprentice managers could be better, however the support from the teams on site and the apprentice assessors cannot be faulted.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
during the first year of the program, the training providers at the collage are great. I never felt as though I had any unanswered questions and extra support sessions were always put in place if required. when moving on to OJT, i had limited contact with my apprentice managers and i felt as though all training responsibilities were solely left with the teams on placement
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
i lacked hand skills when moving onto OJT due to the minimal hands on work at college. i have since been told this has been rectified for the upcoming cohorts. however, the teams on OJT make a conscious effort to improve my hand skills as the vast majority were themselves apprentices and understand the process.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
there are a multitude of extra-curricular activities and courses which my company can put me through. for example the LEAN business improvement course and various aircraft specific courses.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Boeing UK to a friend?
Yes
Why?
the qualifications which i will gain on completion of the apprenticeship are nationally recognized within the aviation industry, therefore they can be used in various other companies.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Boeing UK?
always be eager to learn and take any opportunities to do any extra-curricular courses to enhance your career.
