3/5 - Structure and Support

Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
3/5
Assisting a Communications, Stakeholders and Social Value team, as primary contractor on a major infrastructure project. Booking site visits, staffing our visitor centre and writing internal newsletter articles, or assisting other departments with comms work.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
2/5
I enjoy my work and the people I work with but there is a big disconnect from what I am learning in workshops and what I am actually doing or plan to do in the future.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
3/5
Developed people and presentation skills and knowledge of the construction industry.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
Good contact with my apprenticeship coach and a good mix of in person and online workshops, Usually told in advance when workshops.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
My Line Manager is very understanding and gives me plenty of time to complete the tasks I'm set, bit too busy for any 1-1 coaching or mentoring
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
2/5
Coach is very good but resources from the college and workshops are lacking
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
1/5
I only applied for the qualification to stay working for Kier, the course itself has no bearing on my role as of yet but that is due to the nature of my industry, there is little need for marketing
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
Casual sports teams, volunteering days, charitable events like the National Three Peaks Challenge and Pedal to Paris

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Kier Group to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Excellent working culture and good opportunities. I only took the apprenticeship to keep on working in Kier, once it's finished I doubt i will give much of the content a second thought
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Kier Group?
Show enthusiasm, and try and shadow as many different departments as you can otherwise you won't have the faintest idea what goes on!
