Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

As agreed with my manager, I am completing a rotation within the project teams. Being an apprentice, developing my fundamental understanding of all the roles within the project team is vital to my own personal development. Currently, I am assisting and working with the design team, looking to develop my commercial understanding over the next few weeks.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

The programme is very good. Studying for a degree in Construction Management while also rotating between the different teams on a construction project is diversifying my knowledge. Over the programme, I have gained experience in site management, planning and design. The specific understanding of each team has allowed me to develop further, this makes the programme very enjoyable.
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I've learnt a lot of new skills within the design team, I was assisting the interface between the design and construction team working towards finding solutions for design issues encountered during construction. I am also involved in relaying information to sub-contractors, answering technical queries and raising them to our designer when required.

It is organised and very well structured.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

I receive good support from my employer and training provider. Having quarterly progress meeting and routine meetings with my training provider give me a chance to review my progress and voice any concerns.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

I receive good support from my training provider. The team are readily available to assist, during the 4 block weeks throughout the year, but also through emails with designated points of contact.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

Many of the aspects taught in University align with the works on site.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

There are many extra-curricular activities available. On my current project, there is a monthly social sustainability review where colleagues can take part in extra activities and volunteering.

As a potential apprentice, I advise that you should understand the role you are applying to specifically, ensure it is something you would enjoy and look to progress further. I also recommend that you should research Kier and understand more about what they offer, their values, their targets and their success as a business.
