Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
I have finished the apprenticeship now but my currently role is very similar to when I was doing the apprenticeship. Initially I started on an internal project and now I am on an external one. This is what my current role entails: I work as part of a small software development team on a project. We work in 2 week sprints, completing tickets we have committed to as part of sprint planning. We have a daily stand-up and conduct other Agile ceremonies like retrospectives. I attend a feature review meeting with my external customer once every sprint to demo features we have introduced or worked on in the sprint.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I did enjoy it and it was invaluable preparation for my current role as a junior engineer.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I finished the apprenticeship 8 months ago now but I certainly developed lots of skills and continue to do so. I now code predominantly in Java and Typescript and I previously had very limited skills in these languages. I also have gained a much better understanding of sprint ceremonies and the way it works to be a part of a software development team.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
It was fairly organised although there were some issues with the training provider in the beginning as the course started a month late. I was also one of the first apprentices with my company so there were learning points to come out of that but my company have been very receptive to improvements and I can already see these being actioned with future and current apprenticeship cohorts.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I was very supported by my employer. I learnt the vast majority of my skills from them.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
The training provider was supportive although we only went to college half a day a week. They were very responsive on email though in-between these times.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
I definitely would not have got this far without the qualification and learning on the job has been the most valuable as you get a real grasp of up-to-date and relevant skills as opposed to learning things that are not used in the actual industry setting.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
There are lots of staff teams communities and networks like diversity and inclusion, LGBT+, Women in Tech etc.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend CACI to a friend?
Yes
Why?
CACI are very supportive and they provide a great opportunity for career progression through transparent communications. It is very clear that CACI treat everyone well and they care about their staff.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to CACI?
Show a willingness to learn. Showcase technical talent or thinking outside-the-box. Even if you do not know the answer to something, show a willingness to find out the answer rather than just giving up.
