Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
Field based network engineer, I look after faults and maintenance on the fixed access network: HFC, XGS-PON, telco, business faults and support for the residential engineers that go into customer premisses for trouble calls. I work out of a van with all my tools and have a great level of autonomy in how I do my job.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
3/5
I enjoy the actual job, the apprenticeship has almost nothing to do with my day to day job but I guess it will help with getting future opportunities.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
Pole climbing, fibre work, currently studying the CCNA alongside my work. I have learnt how to do long working, street works, I am now on call so have gotten used to being available 24/7 for a period of time. I have learnt to be independent and solve problems for myself with no backup.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
It is very well organised.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I receive all the support I could need form my employer, my manager is very good.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
Training provider is helpful and my skills coach replies quickly.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
1/5
It has absolutely no relation to my day to day job.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
3/5
Not really for field based workers, the office staff do more but it is a challenge to get involved with this with where I am based. I do have a yearly apprentice summit which is great fun to attend.
