Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
I am employed as a rotational Graduate Surveyor, rotating team every 4 months. So far I have sat in a valuation team, gaining experience in Operational Asset Valuation; focused mostly on living assets. Day to day included: due diligence on assets, report writing, comparable evidence compiling, pricing and modelling pricing to achieve values. I am currently sat in the London Business Space Property Management team, where we manage commercial assets including: Industrial, Office, logistics and retail. Day to day responsibilities include: Arrears chasing, solving tenant issues, report writing, data management and client reporting.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I thoroughly enjoy my program. The people in my current team make the work place an inviting environment which you look forward to being a part of. The work is engaging and the steep learning curve means there is always something to improve on.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I have learnt and developed many skills while employed at Savills including but not limited to:
- Long form report writing, understanding the appropriate language to used based on what type of report is being produced.
- Modelling/ excel skills - developing my already existing skills to understanding how to build in certain variants into models to correctly financially report.
- Networking and relationship building skills have also been developed by being exposed to more skilled colleagues and following their lead.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
Graduate HR at Savills are amazing. The program is very well structured, with many opportunities to learn and progress presented to you throughout. There is a huge amount of internal and hired external support with the RICS qualification process. The company is very good at ensuring the study day is given to the apprenticeship graduates in every team.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
HR are always happy to talk through any issues or concerns you may have and find a solution within the realms of the program that suit the individual. They offer a lot of support for both personal and work issues that may arise. They are also very good at dealing with personal health or mental health issues and providing the appropriate facilities to make you work life more comfortable.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
There is a huge amount of internal and hired external support with the RICS qualification process. Savills hire an external company called APC success who deliver sessions to ensure the right preparations are undertaken to give grads the best opportunity to excel in your qualifications. Savills also provide internal support for the degree apprenticeship.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
It does help to an extent, learning the theory behind some of the methods used in the role is better for understanding and allows for a better performance in the role as you know why certain protocols are undertaken. There is definitely room for improvement in this aspect as some of the material that you learn is outdated in comparison to the workplace.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
Yes, there are many. With charity committees, to sport teams and social events - there is something for everyone, no matter your interests.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Savills to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I would recommend Savills Grad Scheme as its very well structured and allows for a unique learning experience. The unconventional 4 month rotations allows for a diverse range of experience while not pidgin holing an individual into choosing an specialist area before understanding what all of the different areas have to offer.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Savills?
My advice would be to speak to as many people in the industry as possible; gaining an understanding of what the day to day of working in real estate entails. Take an interest in current events, both real estate and not and try to gain an understanding of why Micro and Marco economic factors have the effect they do on the real estate market. Lastly, and most importantly, have an appetite for curiosity - always ask the question of 'why?'
