Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

A Met technician deals with any mechanical, electrical and interior/exterior trim components on damaged vehicles that are being repaired in a body shop. I am a First year apprentice and assist my mentor removing and replacing bumpers, bolt on body panels, suspension components and other damaged parts.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I’ve been really enjoying it. My mentor [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the Higherin Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions] has been great, letting me get hands on straight away and teaching me in a very clear and easy to understand way. I felt instantly at home in the workplace and steer have been great at keeping me up to date with my college schedule.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I’ve only been an apprentice for 2 weeks but in that time I’ve learnt a lot. This includes: techniques for removing interior and exterior trim pieces, using new tools(impact guns, rivet guns) and planning processes to ensure jobs are completed efficiently.

Very well organized, any questions I have had have been answered straight away
How much support do you receive from your employer?

I feel very supported. My manager is very approachable and it’s nice having a designated development manager that I can contact for anything do to with the apprenticeship

Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

No company organized events as such but some of the guys occasionally work on cars/go to track days/go into town on weekends.

Why?
The apprenticeship is very well organized with good communication. I get the feeling that the company really looks after its employees. This creates a happy and therefore fun work environment which has made my first few weeks really enjoyable l
