Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
My current role is Assistant Manager at one of our Screwfix stores. i was able to progress in my role thanks to the apprenticeship programme. The training received was fantastic, with great learning material and lots of help when needed from my trainer.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
3/5
The programme itself was great, the stress I put myself under made it less enjoyable and lack of help getting time from my managers to do the work made it difficult on me to complete in time for certain deadlines. But that was of no fault to the actual programme

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I have a better understanding of how my role affects the business and what I can implement to help better myself, my team and the stores performance.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
Very organised. You create your own feasible deadlines as you go to get things done with your trainer and it’s easy to gain access to information needed. Training calls are arranged around you and can reschedule if theres any issues.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
1/5
My trainer was fantastic. My managers did not understand how the hours worked to allow me to do my work so I had to fight for any hours to be used. In the end my trainer had to have a word with my manager as it was causing a lot of stress and anxiety.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
[This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the Higherin Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions] was fantastic, she would answer messages and calls whenever needed. She had my back when I was struggling with management in store and was very well versed in what is expected and how I could improve to get what I needed from the course.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
A lot of it is general and not specific to our store but is transferrable. It has helped with how to better sales and team performance. How to deal with certain situations and being more confident in my role.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
Some stores have football teams or will arrange night outs with each other. We try to get as involved as possible with our teams to create great relationships where staff feel comfortable to speak to us about anything they may need. We also arrange a do every christmas to let loose during the stressful time of year.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Screwfix to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Its a great place to work, very open and inclusive. Lots if benefits for our staff and lots of opportunities to progress. Pay is higher than most other businesses and we do everything we can to give extra shifts to those who need it when we can. Very health and safety focused. Our teams are always a great bunch of people, lots of fun and work well together.

Be confident in your interview, be open and flexible. Show your personality, we hire a variety of people as each have something to add to our teams. We like hard workers as theres lots to get done with priorities always changing.
