Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
I'm a project engineer who runs the electrical install of the different types of door systems and the Surge Protection in a Nuclear Facility. This involves ordering materials, planning activities, running labour, reviewing and updating technical drawings, all while following the specification and schedules given to us.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I enjoy the programme as it is the variety I was looking for on a day-to-day basis which I have definitely found, no 2 days are the same with dealing with unexpected problems or moving on with the next stage of works for the job completion.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
There have been many new skills developed including management skills and technical skills. I have developed my communication skills, due to the constant talks with either NG Bailey Engineers / Management, other external Contractors and / or the Client; organisation skills, due to the amount of drawings you have to update / approve. Also my software skills, especially Excel.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
We are given a booklet which underlines what placements need to be done and a guidance to how long you should spend on each, this is looked at each year and updated if required. We are also given a checklist covering all areas of work with consistent reviews, making sure we are receiving the experiences we need.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
We have reviews every 6 weeks with your line manager onsite and/or the office, where you measure your progress with your other reviews to ensure progress is being made. I have been offered courses that are not required for my apprenticeship but will benefit my career, which solidifies my trust that they want the best for me.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
Every job role for each year is given their own accessor who provides constant support for your KSB and portfolio ensuring you are on track to completing your apprenticeship on time. We also have consistent reviews with these accessors ensuring progress is being made.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
They provide the technical experience required to undertake our role. We covering different types of systems including how they work, calculations relating to them, pros and cons of each one. We also covering sustainability which helps us align to NG Bailey values.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
Everyone is given 2 volunteering days per year with a list of places to volunteer, or you can apply to help at a place of your choosing. We are given social activities for celebrations for project successes . A development day is given to us where all apprentices in the year meet up and undertake activities together, building on necessary skills.
