Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

I work in the 3-4yrs room from 8:30am to 5:30pm. I come in join the children with the activities and greet everyone, sometimes I will grab stock that is needed for the day. I help with the toilet run and setting out activities throughout the day. I also have a job each day that is cleaning based for example: mopping the floors, cleaning up lunch, ext. I also lead grouptimes with children sometimes developing on maths and literacy. I also do observations once a week on my key children to write about their development/ things they are doing at nursery.

To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I enjoy my job very much. I get to do what I love by spending time and being a role model for the children I work with and also learning of other staff in the setting.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

Yes. I have learned to manage my emotions particularly managing my home and work life and being able to work in a team and develop relationships with colleagues. I have also learned how to have a routine and be able to keep up with my time management, making sure I'm on time for work and doing my jobs.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

It is very well organised I know when certain events are going on for example, a staff meeting or mental health day. I know what time frame I need to be getting my college work done and also know I can ask people from my team to help me when I'm struggling.

How much support do you receive from your employer?

I receive so much support, when I'm feeling down I know I can always speak to somebody particularly management about whats going on and whats on my mind. They have helped so much with finding ways to cope with my emotions and have also supported me a lot with my college work and helping me reach my goals.

How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

I receive regular help from my college. When I attend my teachers are always willing to answer any of my questions and explain the units very clearly. If I'm stuck with any of the work I know exactly who to talk to and my assessor has made my next steps and goals clear to me

How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

4/5

Pretty well. My assessor has observed me quite a few times and some of the activities i needed to carry out put me out of my comfort zone but has pushed me to carry out more of these activities in the setting by myself. My teachers also give me valuable advice in lessons about how to handle situations I may come across.

Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

Some of the staff hold events after work and we have an annual christmas party.

Would you recommend Forbury Gardens Day Nursery to a friend?

Yes

Why?

Because it is a wonderful nursery. Not only are the children a joy the staff are so welcoming and it really feels like a little family, everyone is so close and i feel i can talk to anybody around me.
