In my role, I spend a lot of time reviewing information and making sure everything lines up. On a typical day, I go through documents and look at budgets across different teams and projects.
I work a lot with spreadsheets, reviewing data and making sure there aren’t any inconsistencies. I also compare what people have said or submitted with what the system shows, just to make sure everything matches up. This means asking questions when something doesn’t seem right.

To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I really enjoy my program because it gives me the flexibility to balance both coursework and my daily work. The structure allows me to manage both effectively, which is great. Plus, there’s a lot of support available, especially since there are so many apprentices in the office, so I always feel like I have people to turn to for guidance.
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I’ve definitely become more confident in how I communicate, especially when emailing senior people. I’ve also gotten better at handling mistakes, which has helped me figure out how to do things better next time.

How well organised/structured is your programme?

I think the program is really well-organized. There’s a clear structure that helps me balance my coursework and everyday responsibilities. The timeline is manageable, and there’s enough support especially with the number of apprentices in the office. It’s easier to get help when needed.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

I receive a good amount of support from my employer. They’re always available to answer questions, and there’s a lot of guidance, especially from more experienced colleagues. The fact that there are other apprentices in the office means that members of the organisation know that we have exams and are more able to accommodate. Overall, I feel well-supported in both my role and with my development.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

I get good support from my training provider. We’re given time to work on our qualifications, and I can ask questions whenever I need help. There’s also an apprentice network, so it’s easier to ask others
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

I think my qualification helps a lot with my role. The training gives me practical skills and knowledge that I can apply to my daily tasks, making me more confident in what I’m doing and improving my overall performance.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

Yes, we have sport teams at our work such as tennis and netball. There are also quizzes.

Would you recommend National Audit Office to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I would recommend it because the teams understand that we have exams and a qualification to work towards. They encourage us to block out time in our calendars for college related admin. The exams are also spread out during the first year, so we can get used to this.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to National Audit Office?
I’d say do your research on the National Audit Office and what they do - it helps to understand the kind of work you’ll be involved in. Be honest in your application and try to show why you’re interested in the role, not just the qualification. Also, be prepared to manage your time well, since you’ll be balancing work and study.
