Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
I am on the DevOps program and working within a productivity engineering team. We support a number of tools and technologies to enhance other engineers within the company's workflows.
A typical day could involve writing new code and services for colleagues, contributing to code reviews, or provisioning infrastructure with terraform and on a Friday a lovely pub lunch!
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I'm enjoying it immensely, Arm is a brilliant company to work for and I have had a great team around me to learn from. My training provider have also been very active in making sure I am learning and feel comfortable in my role, as well as providing support and regular check ins.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I have learnt tonnes whilst on the programme! The bootcamp from my provider was great at preparing me for entering the role and whilst on the job I have been given lots of freedom to up-skill and learn from my colleagues.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
It has been very well structured fro the start with clear monthly goals and a very clear idea of what the final assessments would look like from the beginning of the programme. Makers in particular have provided lots of support and made it very clear what is expected and when, encouraging apprentices to hit checkpoints for things like portfolio writing to spread out the task and prepare for the endpoint assessments.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
The earl careers team have been great in being available for questions and are very responsive to feedback. Within my team my colleagues have all been amazing too, taking the time out to help me learn and explain new concepts to me.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
Lots of regular checkins with my placement coach keep me on track with work and she was great in taking a holistic approach to my learning, making sure I keep work/life balance, that I was settling in after moving for the role and of course making sure I was on track for submitting my portfolio and ready for my end point assessment.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
The qualification definitely makes me think about some different aspects of the DevOps role than I get in my day-to-day work which helps prepare me when I eventually encounter these topics and puts me in a good position for changing positions in the future.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
Always lots to do! There are regular events in the office from talks from outside and internal speakers, the catering team put on great events such as a Bbq for Eid recently. We also have an apprentices social committee who organise events across the different offices, both social activities and learning and volunteering opportunities.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Arm to a friend?
Yes
Why?
It's a great company to work for! Not just in terms of benefits but the work is really nice, I haven't met anyone who hasn't been lovely and as an apprentice people have been great at giving me time and space to both independently learn and to work together to develop my understanding.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Arm?
Don't worry too much about your existing engineering knowledge when applying to the apprentice programme, if you can demonstrate passion and a willingness to learn you'll be fine!
