I am an apprentice economist, who works in DHSC. This includes building models to estimate cost benefit analysis and writing impact assessments.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I enjoy the programme especially the work side of it as I find work very enjoyable.

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

Learnt lots about government policy as well as improved my excel skills and learning power bi.

It is quite well organised, as both work and uni talk to each other.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

We have an apprentice network with grade managers for apprentices as well as an apprenticeship advisor on the uni side.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

Apart from the lectures being pre-recorded the uni is good. We have people we can go to with any problems.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

Unlike a normal degree the modules are linked to work for example the working with data module or the economic policy module.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

We have apprentice away days, drinks as well as 5 a side football to name a few.

Why?
Very rewarding and interesting work as well as a paid for degree and very valuable work experience.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Government Economic Service?
The recruitment is not done by department but rather centrally so don't prepare for a specific department. Learn the civil service code and practice interviews with someone to prepare.
