Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

Junior adviser in the tax team. I assist with the preparation of personal tax returns and corporation tax returns.

To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I am enjoying my apprenticeship so far. I get support not just from my colleagues but also from my tutors at college. I am learning new skills/knowledge every day.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I started my apprenticeship not knowing anything about tax but I have received a lot of support throughout my time so far at PM+M and my knowledge of tax has improved massively. My communication skills have definitely improved. When I joined PM+M, I had no experience of what it was like in a working environment but everyone welcomed me into the team and for that I'm extremely grateful for.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

Very well structured and organised - no complaints. I am always kept up to date off when I start a new course at college. When arranging meetings, they are always arranged for times I am available.

How much support do you receive from your employer?

I receive a HUGE amount of support from PM+M. I feel comfortable asking questions to my colleagues when I am not quite sure of anything. They always take the time to sit with me and help with anything. When I am working on massive tax computations, my manager will take the time to sit with me and go through the comp. We also receive a lot training in just general. PM+M supports us to be the best version of ourselves.

How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

A great amount of support. They always stay behind at breaks, lunch and at the end of the day for any questions I have. I know I can also email my tutors when I am not in college and I will always get a quick response. They always offer us additional support. I have arranged teams calls with my FI coach for further development / support in the past.

How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

It builds a foundation for me to work on. As I am studying AAT, it helps build my knowledge of accounting which is not something I do in the office.

Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

PM+M sponsors a lot of events (mainly for charities). We also have a lot of networking events, this allows us to build stronger relationships with clients and other people in the local community. PM+M also holds a staff Christmas party and staff summer party. We also have regular team socials too - the tax team would usually get together for a meal and an activity. As a firm, we also participated in a football tournament against other businesses for charity.
