Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
I'm an audit apprentice at NAO, which means that I'm involved in testing client evidence to obtain assurance over the financial statements. My day to day work involves handling client evidence, testing this evidence to check we gain assurance over it and that the money is being spent in a way considered regular, and then documenting my work
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I really enjoy my programme, its challenging which allows me to grow and develop, but I always have a good support network around me to give me helpful tips if I get stuck. Everyone I work with is lovely, which adds to the positivity I feel in the work environment

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I've learnt skills such as data analysis, professional scepticism and also developed so many more technical skills. My time management has also developed hugely, alongside my communication skills, particularly with clients and people I am unfamiliar with

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
The programme is really organised, we have a professional training team dedicated to ensuring we have a smooth experience. The split between work and college is really well balanced, and we always know when we are in college in advance of studying, and have allocated study leave days which are very helpful
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
We receive lots of support from our employer, they give us study leave days to make sure we have enough time to revise for exams, it is well known that when we go to college nobody should be getting in contact with us, we also get time off work for apprenticeship requirements such as reflective statements.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
BPP are very good when we are in college, and the resources and teaching we receive is at a very high level. I find it feels slightly less structured around reflective statements, although we do have check ins with BPP to make sure we are on track
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
The reflective statements enable me to focus on what skills I am developing in my work, and are helpful to highlight areas that I think I should be focusing on and improving
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
There's plenty of social events to get involved with, such as christmas parties, summer BBQs and film quiz, which we are even able to help plan! There's a lot more sports activities available at the london office in comparison to newcastle, which is slightly sad but hopefully we'll get some more in newcastle in the future!

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend National Audit Office to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I love everything about my apprenticeship and am so glad I decided not to go to uni. The experience and qualification that I am gaining is amazing and has literally set me up for life. Everyone I work with is also amazing, and I've made many friends for life here!
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to National Audit Office?
Make sure you do your research on the apprenticeship before you apply! You will get asked questions specific to NAO at all stages of the application process, and I think having a good knowledge of the company really makes you shine
