Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
Performing laboratory analytical techniques on various materials and drugs.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
3/5
My programme is satisfactorily enjoyable, particularly when attending university or development weeks.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
Laboratory skills strengthened when compared to A level. Soft skills (independence, timekeeping, planning) greatly developed.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
University work (one day a week) is highly organised. Workplace training and development is less organised, often due to the precedence taken by the business and its needs.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
3/5
Support is satisfactory.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
Support is extensively and personally available from university.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
The qualification is highly applicable in some places, especially units which cover business skills and practical knowledge. In other areas, such as the chemical units (organic, inorganic and physical), the qualification is perhaps less relevant as my role doesn't ubiquitously require advanced technical knowledge.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
3/5
Yes, should one wish to participate.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend GSK to a friend?
Yes
Why?
In my experience, GSK is employer with good benefits and fairly enjoyable work. It provides good experience for young people upon leaving full time education, which will help the progression of their career in the future.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to GSK?
To focus on working hard, remaining accountable, and becoming as best as possible at the work they do as well as trying to protect any motivation that they might bring into their role.
