In my apprenticeship I worked in the operations team for our road logistics branch. The day to day mainly involved staying close with customers and suppliers to make sure that everything ran smoothly from a logistics and customer service point of view.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I find it very enjoyable. My local team are enthusiastic about my development and as long as I get done what I need to without any issues I can enjoy a lot of autonomy because of the trust my reporting line has in me.
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have built a massive amount of confidence in customer communication through both email and phone/ teams calls. I have developed a strong foundation in workload management and organisational skills that make my professional life much easier. I've also got a level 2 and level 4 qualification.
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

The level 2 customer service worked well with the initial role however as you get into the level 4 sales I would have preferred the role to become more based in sales than customer service. This has been adjusted since then however this was an issue during my apprenticeship.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

Massive amounts of support. I've been enthusiastically trained by my colleagues and my direct report is very understanding with any adjustments due to personal circumstances. Due to the unfailing support of those around me it made me want to excel more than ever in my role.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

My apprenticeship tutor was extremely understanding of me and my workload. She always did her utmost to support me and I was welcome to reach out whenever if I had need of any help. The regular calls helped keep me on track and accountable to meet all my deadlines.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

For me the qualifications are nice to have and relevant to the role however in my role hands on experience helps more than qualifications. The qualifications are useful however I don't believe I would be limited in my advancement if I didn't have them.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

There are apprenticeship networking events and social activities a couple times a year. There are many opportunities (if you show yourself to be capable) for developmental extra-curricular activities to get involved in however I didn't actively pursue this during my apprenticeship.

Why?
The apprenticeship is a brilliant gateway into a massive international organisation. Once you are through the door the world is your oyster and the limit is a balance between your competency and ambition. It is not easy however if you consistently give your best and push your limits you will get KNs best in return.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Kuehne + Nagel?
You have to be comfortable and enjoy change. Due to the ever shifting role of logistics you have to keep on top of changes to outdo the competition. Give your best and work hard and I'm sure you will find satisfaction in the work.
