My role as a firefighter varies day-to-day ranging from carrying out community engagement to operational firefighting and rescues.

To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I have thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of my programme. The course was interesting and opened a range of doors for learning and development (both professional and personal).

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

Whilst in my role, the possibility to learn new skills feels almost endless. There is always something more to be learned or developed upon in order to provide the most efficient and effective outcomes.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

The programme was very well structured with clear points set out to reflect on progression. The organisation of the course made it simple to follow to reach a desirable outcome.

How much support do you receive from your employer?

My employer offers unlimited support being available for consultation throughout the working hours making it easy for clarification of any subject that may be misinterpreted. They are also there for guidance when needed and encouragement to ensure you perform to the best you can.

How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

The training provider offers a wealth of background knowledge regarding the processes and is very helpful in ensuring completion of all of the necessary steps to reach the end of the programme. They often go out of their own way to ensure clarity among learners.

How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

The gained qualification gives a massive advantage in the reduction aspect of my role as a firefighter. The qualification broadens and strengthens knowledge around the subject area and ensures you become more than competent in carrying out that section of your role and even passing on knowledge to those who haven't carried out the same qualification.

Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

There are many extra curricular groups at work which range from professional discussion groups around topical subject areas such as neurodiversity for example and also sporting groups that encourage members of staff to maintain physical fitness to help improve their emotional well being also, another example being the golf society.

It is an amazing place to work and presents exciting new opportunities for those looking to better themselves and develop the fundamental core of who they are. No two days are the same and every day poses a new chance to gain knowledge and expand on a range of skills you might already have. The staff are all polite and friendly and easy to get along with which makes the overall enjoyment of being at work second to none.
