Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
The course is a mixture of academy weeks and weeks shadowing on patch. Academy weeks are focused on theory and learning best practice when working with tools and appliances. When out on patch the learning is real time ‘on the job’ experience, putting into practaice the skills we have learned at the academy.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I have really enjoyed the course so far. There is a lot to take in and therefore, discipline with self care is essential.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
Yes, I have learned about heating systems and how they’re installed into domestic properties. The main focus has been on installing the physical components up until now e.g. pipe work through walls, bending pipe, soldering pipe and putting the boiler in place. I have observed the operatives taking the technical readings and filling out the legal paper work but have not covered this in the academy as yet. I have been able to use skills I developed before starting the apprenticeship e.g. drilling and fixing clips and pipes to walls.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
The course is very well set out.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
The support and benefits scheme is brilliant.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
The support so far has been second to none.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
Extremely well.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
We have enough on at the minute, but the social aspect os great and the engineers are inclusive.
