Summer Scheme Placement Review

The summer scheme allowed me to gain insight into multiple aspects of the work undertaken by Building Surveyors day to day. This included site progress visits, client meetings to discuss planned maintenance programmes, site inspections to determine schedule of works, reviewing of contracts to check for dilapidations clauses, reviewing reinstatement cost assessments and time to practise computer skills including AutoCAD.
Interactions with Savills staff were always pleasant in and out of the office.

It was very interesting and any questions I had about the industry and company were answered in depth. I feel I have a better understanding of building surveying as a career as a result.

I've gained a better understanding of the typical building surveying tasks such as dilapidations, project management,, schedule of works production and planned maintenance.
I have also improved my skill within in AutoCAD, as well as other applications such as Photoshop.

There was a friendly company culture where I was made to feel welcome and included. I had the opportunity to attend a national conference day with travel, food and entertainment paid for. I also learned about the performance of the business over the last few years at this conference.

I highly enjoyed the insight as the emphasis was always on giving me an opportunity to learn and helping me in any way possible. There was a welcoming culture and the team were all very friendly towards me. The placement met my expectations of insight provided into the industry and I would certainly go back given the opportunity.
