Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
3/5
Learning of technical skills needed to service and repair all aspects of domestic heating systems but not limited to gas, including electrics, gas, water and installations
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
2/5
The career and benefits are excellent, the course structure needs revising as a lot of the academy structure is done poorly, a lot of new engineers feel thrust into the deep end with engineers and are expected to know what to do or get left behind until they come back to the academy

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
Yes, a wide range of new skills

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
1/5
Not very well, academy time is poorly structured with large gaps between learning material and some relevant material glossed over and left to field engineers to try and educate new engineers during very minimal time they have, field time allocation for engineers needs to be adjusted to allow new engineers to have adequate time to learn and question what they're doing instead of just following orders.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
3/5
A large amount of support in terms of assistance with learning and understanding, however, support with functional skills, paperwork understanding and course structuring are lacking
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
Mandatory qualification, mandatory training leading to it just poorly structured and delivered
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
Mandatory
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
Not me personally but there are a fair few

What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Centrica?
Go for it if you can afford to
