As a Trainee Building Services Engineer, I rotate through a wide range of departments, including planning, design, commercial, operations, and more. My daily tasks involve reviewing documents, assisting teams, attending meetings, and networking with colleagues. As I progress, I take on more responsibilities and gain hands-on experience in real life projects
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I really enjoy the variety of placements, from planning and design to commercial and operations, as it gives me a well-rounded understanding of the industry. Learning new software and technical skills while networking with experienced professionals has been a great experience.
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have learned to use Bluebeam Revu, Excel, and Asta Powerproject for project planning. In design, I have been introduced to flow rate conversions, domestic and drainage schematics, and calculating flow rates. My technical knowledge, problem-solving, and software skills have improved significantly.

The programme is well-structured, with rotations across different departments like planning, design, commercial, and operations. This provides a broad understanding of the industry. There is good support from managers, but as its a new scheme, some areas are still developing.

I receive strong support from managers, mentors, and colleagues, who are always willing to help and provide guidance. Regular check-ins and networking opportunities make it easier to learn and progress.

The support from my training provider is excellent, with regular communication, clear guidance, and access to resources to help me progress towards my qualifications. They offer helpful feedback and are always available to assist with any challenges I face during my studies.

The qualification helps me by providing the basic knowledge and skills I need for my role. It makes it easier for me to understand tasks and apply what I learn to real-life situations, improving my performance.

Yes, there are site events organised by HR, such as the apprentice induction event and other site activities. These events bring together emerging talent from different teams, helping us network, build relationships, and collaborate outside of regular work tasks.
