Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
I’ve been with British Gas for 2 months now, and I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my time with the company so far. There’s a great blend of practical and theoretical knowledge, and the instructors are some of the best in the industry. There’s academy itself is state of the art, and is equipped with every type of gas appliance you can think of, meaning that you get hands on experience before going out and doing the job for real. The company has great values, and they’re upheld. Everyone is made to feel welcome and part of the team. It’s not perfect, getting things like new clothing or tools can be a bit of a pain, but in general, this is the happiest I’ve ever been at work.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I love it, I genuinely enjoy coming 8th the academy every day. I also love going out on patch and working with the qualified engineers in customers’ homes.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
Yes, in the 2 months that I’ve been here, I’ve gained huge amounts of knowledge surrounding gas engineering.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
Generally the programme is well structured. There’s a whole curriculum which is clearly laid out and stuck to, for the most part.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I’ve never had to request any type of special support so far, but the business has made it clear that they’re ready to support me in any way that they can, and I’ve been made aware of all of the various channels and ways of seeking help and support.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
There’s loads of help available, both from your managers, instructors and the wider business.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
British Gas train you in all aspects of domestic gas engineering, meaning that once you leave, you’ll have knowledge in all areas, not just the job specific knowledge required for your role.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
There are extra curricular activities, I believe that the Dartford academy has 5 a side teams that you can take part in.
