Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
Varied work involving business rates valuation. I have inspected offices, shops, factories, schools, a church and communication masts. More often I am in the office or at home completing valuations and processing cases. I will soon move to another department to learn different forms of valuation and interact with external customers more.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
The work is varied and there is some pressure to complete tasks. The people are very friendly and supportive of learners.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I have learned many useful surveying skills, inspection, measurement, valuation, negotiation and I know a lot about taxation of property.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
Mostly good. There is a clear structure of what needs to be learned in each section and you are monitored to ensure you are learning. UCEM covers the degree part of the apprenticeship and this is well organised. it is all online so the benefit of face to face teaching is lost but this is made up for with the excellent resources provided.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
The employer is very supportive. I get one day a week for study during term time and there are regular check ins and training sessions for apprentices.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
UCEM has a lot of support if you go looking for it.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
The qualification will get me MRICS status which is important for the role I would like to do. The course content is not all directly useful but does provide some background for the valuations.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
3/5
I don't participate in these as I live too far from the office. There are sports teams and social events I believe

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Valuation Office Agency to a friend?
Yes
Why?
The work culture is very much concentrated on work/life balance and there is a lot of support if needed. The flexitime is very nice to have and there are a lot of opportunities for promotion once qualified.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Valuation Office Agency?
I would advise people to apply here, any age. The Masters apprenticeship, if you already have a degree is hard work but the pay and responsibilities at the end is very much worth it. The degree does not need to be related to valuation and you don't need to have experience, they will teach you everything,
