Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
As a technical apprentice, I have floated around the different departments of the company. I’m currently in the Commercial department, so my day consists of reviewing applications from subcontractors, accessing variations from subcontractors, taking off drawings via blue beam, creating excel spreadsheets to log data.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I enjoy seeing the commercial side of it, I like seeing numbers and monies. I enjoy trying to make a number work for a task of works, or agreeing a number with a contractor.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I have learnt the skill of time management, using this skill I have applied to all daily activities. Knowing I cannot spend too long or too short on an activity.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
The programme is well structured, I have a mentor who goes through every task I do in detail with things I’ve done well, and things I can improve on. The site team are always on hand to help me access anything needed too.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
My employer has provided me with a mentor, as well as 3 independent mentors that have backgrounds in electrical, mechanical engineering as well as commercial management. With this help, I can never be ‘stuck’ too long on a task as they are very easily contactable via phone or email
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
As mentioned, the company provide all the apprentices with the 3 mentors for mechanical, electrical and commercial management. If I ever have troubles with an assignment or exam - I have previously emailed the relevant mentor and they have expeditiously arranged help for me
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
Having a building services qualification in contracting is a very important qualification to have. Using the information taught in lectures, I can solve issues or problems out by myself if I want to remain independent whilst completing a task
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
We have a quarterly scheduled apprentice breakfast, where we come together, share ideas and express the goods of our day to day apprentice life’s. We also are invited to CPD events extremely regularly

Yes
Why?
I have recommended many friends on the ESG limited apprenticeship scheme, due to how supportive the company are with apprentices
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to ESG Limited?
I’d advise anyone stepping into an apprenticeship role to just keep asking questions, you’ll never get the answer if you don’t ask!
