Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

On a day-today basis I work in multiple environments such as internal and external meetings, supplier communication, work with procurements, as well as practical work in lab and manufacturing environments. I am also subject to out of office visits to factories and suppliers. I also have multiple projects I am working on, meaning increased responsibility.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I thoroughly enjoy the programme I do. I have made many new friends in and outside of the company I work for. I have also been able to do lots of networking. I feel very valued in my team and within my role, and my team at Unilever are very welcoming and supportive.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have developed my networking skills as well as confidence hugely. I am able to confidently present to peers, colleagues and suppliers. I have developed my knowledge in the packaging sector as well as knowledge in procurements, business structure and cost savings. I have developed my skills in business integrity.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

My programme is very well organised, with allocated time for university lectures, assignments and project work. I also have regular catch ups with my mentor and line manager to get any support I need at any time. In addition to this, my training provider Sheffield Hallam University provide lots of support also.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

I have lots of support from many places. I can get support from; my mentor, line manager, other apprentices, the future careers team and also people in my team at work. I get regular catch up meetings to discuss any help I need/problems I am facing. I feel well supported.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

I have lots of support from many places. I can get support from; course leads, lecturers, other apprentices on the course. I get regular catch up meetings to discuss any help I need/problems I am facing with assignments or course content. I feel very well supported in University work.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

Many of the assignments I do at University link to work I do everyday in my job role. I am able to link project work to assignments, expanding my knowledge lots. The assignments I complete at University help me preform well in my job and work to a high standard.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

I am able to be involved in many social activities as well as sports teams. I am also subject to multiple professional networking events because of my work. I can also get involved in outreach and STEM volunteer work at schools for example. I am able to meet many new people due to this.

As I thoroughly enjoy the programme at Unilever that I do. I have made many new friends in and outside of the company I work for. I have also been able to do lots of networking. I feel very valued in my team and within my role, and my team at Unilever are very welcoming and supportive.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Unilever?
Do research into the company as this shows keen interest in working for Unilever. Always ask lots of good questions in interviews and show confidence. But most importantly, be yourself! Make sure to put in effort and prepare for an interviews as this is a very competitive place to work for.
