Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
I work on Sunsilk innovation projects as well as supporting new sustainable packaging capabilities (recyclable mono-material pumps). My day to day is split between lab, office and factory led activities. I use different equipment and applications.

4/5
I am really glad I chose to do an apprenticeship. I enjoy my role and like that I can tailor it to suit my needs and get the most out of it.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I have developed lots of exisiting skills such as communication, teamwork, organisation. Furthermore, as part of the apprenticeship, I have established new technical packaging knowledge, skills and behaviours that help aid my performance in the role.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
I think the initial 6 months could be better structured to ensure you know what you are doing as an apprentice. I think you should have the opportunity to be placed in rotations to gain exposure and figure out your areas of interest. It is also a great way to meet the team.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
I feel very well supported by my mentor and manager at Unilever. They support me with any problems I have with University as well as helping to source the appropriate opportunities to help me develop.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
I am the course representative and feel confident that am supported by my university. With being enrolled on a small course, I have the chance to build greater relationships with the teaching staff.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
I think that the degree helps to spark conversations around packaging and teaches me the technical knowledge of packaging concepts. The degree gives me a wider awareness of the packaging industry which helps me when critically thinking in the workplace.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
There are plenty of extra curricular activities I have the opportunity to get involved in the workplace. I am a STEM ambassador as well as work as part of the 'celebration pillar' for the team.
