Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
I have been supporting the rest of my team in broking on a day to day basis. I have been drafting and sending out submissions to market and going into Lloyds with the other more senior members of my team to broke the deals.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I have lucked out with the team I was given. I have been doing more front facing tasks than the majority of my apprentice peers. I have not been doing any slips or any endorsements etc. All I have been doing is broking which is good experience for me as that is what I want to do post apprenticeship.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I have had to be more social in the role I am in. I have had to put myself out there and speak to lots of new people. I have developed my skill of broking too.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
We have 2.5 hour long workshops, which cover a lot of the content we need to pass our CII exams. We also have review meetings once a month to track progress.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
I have a lot of support from the people within my team. Everyone was very welcoming at first and made me feel at ease whenever I had any silly questions. I also get support from my manager who allows me to shadow his work whenever I want.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
We have workshops which are 2.5 hours once a fortnight which are very useful and cover all the topics which people most struggle on. We also get one retake exam paid for, if you do happen to fail an exam.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
The CII qualification will help a lot in my role as a broker as it gives me the foundation knowledge I need which I wouldn't otherwise learn. In these exams you learn about the different forms of insurance as well as the different roles in insurance.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
I have been a part of the football team, we have played against other underwriters and broking houses. I have also attended a few early careers events which are very good for networking with more senior members of the company.
