Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

My job involves accepting and unloading deliveries on the goods in bay. It requires me to ensure everything is correct on the delivery before booking it in. It also requires me to maintain my warehouse by sweeping, emptying the bins, helping work stock and manning the goods in bay daily.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I enjoyed every second of my apprenticeship. I always learned something new. I enjoyed putting the learning into practice and proving myself to management. It has encouraged me to look forwards, into a career in management. I also enjoyed my one to ones with my coach who was full of knowledge and I feel I have inherited a lot of that knowledge.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have learnt a lot from my apprenticeship. Both about my role and about myself. It has encouraged me to start an undergraduates degree in business and management. I started that in October of 2024. I have learnt that the customer is the reason I do what I do. I have learnt that I am capable of anything I put my mind to and that health and safety is very important to what we do on a daily basis.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

The programme was very well organised and structured. I knew what I needed to do and when I needed to do it. I was always kept informed of what was going on. The only problem I found was changing coaches. The process was ironed out as well as it could be but I was a little confused at first.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

My employer was supportive from the very beginning. From the time I approached my UM and asked to go on the programme I felt supported. My Trading manager at the time would allow me time off the shop floor to be able to study. Anything I needed, I was provided with.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

Lifetime/cambrian supported my all the way through the programme. If I needed clarification on anything I knew that reaching out to my coach, I would receive the support I needed.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

I think it allows me to preform a lot better. I know look at expiration dates like it’s second nature. I also now base all my decisions based on my customers. Another example of this is in setting up my displays. I take so much pride in my work.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

Would you recommend B&Q to a friend?
Yes
Why?
The job is rewarding. The staff are friendly. The work is beneficial to customers. The customers appreciate you. I’m addition to this. The opportunities are for everyone. This programme give mr the confidence to apply to the business and management degree with the open university.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to B&Q?
Always be yourself. Always be curious and always take an opportunity.
