Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
I am currently in the academy completing work tasks to get my experience and knowledge up before going onto site. We do soldering, metal cutting and bending as well as circuits and control systems including switches.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
3/5
I really enjoy the programme. There are a lot of us, so sometimes it gets a bit loud and hard to concentrate but over all I really enjoy it and the people I work with. I am learning a lot of new things.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
3/5
Yes. I have learnt how to solder and create a circuit. I have also gained more confidence in using tools and equipment.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
I am still near the start but so far I would say it is very well organised. They are doing it slightly different this year to past years but you wouldn't know.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
3/5
I receive a lot of support. Managers are always there to help where they can or just to talk to if you have any questions. It is a very inclusive environment and the managers really drive that.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
We are at college and we get support there. As we are only there once a week we can emails all our teachers if we have any concerns or queries. They check in with us every week to make sure we are getting on okay.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
The knowledge I am gaining will be very valuable in my role. The qualification will help me to understand different aspects of the work that I am doing and understanding how things work and therefore how to fix them.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
3/5
There are expos where we can meet different areas of the company and get to see what else goes on around site.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend AWE to a friend?
Yes
Why?
It's a nice atmosphere to work in. The trainers know a lot about what they are teaching. The pay is good and the benefits are as well.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to AWE?
It's a long process but worth it in the end. Once you are in it's a lot of fun.
