Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
As a Financial Analyst, my role involves managing financial data for 20-30 teams, assisting them in using financial tools, and controlling costs. I communicate with budget champions about monthly deadlines and process intercompany transactions. I also send out regular reports to teams and manage data files daily. In essence, my role is a blend of financial management, data analysis, communication, and reporting.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
2/5
I enjoy the programme as it allows me to apply my skills in a practical setting. However, balancing the demands of the job role with studying and maintaining a learning journal can be challenging

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
3/5
Developed confidence and communication skills. I have learned every responsibility in my role from scratch and now feel confident in my role

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
The programme is well-structured, particularly the job role learning under careful mentorship. However, the pace can be intense, especially if one falls behind in the study component.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
3/5
The support from my line manager in understanding my role has been commendable. However, the pace of the training programme can be challenging, and additional support would be beneficial. Balancing both job responsibilities and training could be better managed to prevent feelings of burnout.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
1/5
I didn't manage to keep up with the online learning classes and so fell behind in my learning. This was due to having being pushed by the combined work load from my line manager and my training provider. From this I have really struggled to catch up and ,except useful learning content like mock exams, have felt little support.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
I originally applied as an accounting apprentice and since joining the programme, have worked as a finance analyst. I think the qualification will be useful for moving to an accounting role but it does not directly help me perform better at my role.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
3/5
Yes, there are fairly regular social events during work; like coffee breaks and apprentice chats. There is also a football team that has been rewarding to play for. However I believe that is the only sports team available, and only men join. So it seems as though there are very limited options r it isn't easy to find out about these activities

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Unilever to a friend?
No
Why?
While the company offers commendable flexibility, the apprenticeship program could be improved. The division between company and temporary employees can lead to disparities in benefits. Additionally, the workload can be intense, and the prospects for securing a role post-apprenticeship could be clearer.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Unilever?
Be prepared for a fast-paced environment and ensure you understand the terms of your contract. It’s important to balance work and study effectively, and don’t hesitate to seek support when needed
