Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
I am responsible for designing and delivering full life-cycle, equitable recruitment processes. This involves the following:
Work directly and regularly with Leadership across the Tech & Enabling Functions line of business
Decide on the most appropriate methodology for finding talent, including direct sourcing, head hunting, advertising, agencies and exploring internal solutions
Guide and teach hiring leaders on how to create inclusive and equitable hiring processes
Create diverse talent pipelines for future requirements where appropriate
Keep accurate candidate details and ensure the Applicant Tracking System is maintained at all times.
Participate and contribute to collaborative efforts across the EMEA Talent Acquisition and HR Centers of Excellence.
Work with the Talent Acquisition Manager to showcase The Walt Disney Company’s employer brand
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
As my internship has went on I have had more responsibilities. For the first half of my internship it was largely focused on training, administrative tasks and team support. Coming into the last 6 months I have been given my own business area to look after and recruit for. This involves handling the full 360 hiring processes in regards to getting a role come through, partnering with the business on who they're looking for and aligning with their expectations and my hiring processes. This has been a rewarding aspect of my internship as this is quite a large responsibility that I have been trusted with and I'm happy that I've been able to deliver to match those expectations.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
I think the most prominent skill being my confidence and communication. Talent Acquisition requires you to be constantly delivering strong stakeholder management as you will be talking to members of the business at all levels, multiple candidates per day and external businesses such as recruitment agencies and job boards.
I started off the placement having no previous office experience - barely knowing how to write an email. I think since then I have really got to grasp what it's like in terms of office etiquette and increasing my professionalism making me feel ready and confident to go back into a corporate environment after my studies.

Support and Guidance

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
From the very start my line manager was very understanding of me being completely entry level - not knowing basic administration tasks. The team in general has been very patient and comprehensive in the training they have provided making me feel confident in being able to produce a high quality of work.
As I started rotating across different teams I always had regular 1 to 1s with my line manager as well as my team manager to make sure I am comfortable with what I'm doing, my workload and allowing me to receive feedback.

Company Culture

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
I loved the culture at Disney. There was always something going on to get involved in with the wider business. They put a lot of focus into their BERGs (Business Employee Resource Groups) such as DisneyPride, DisneyDiversity, Women@Disney and Enabled. They create an environment where everyone is welcome and also an environment where we can step up and further challenge aspects of the business that still needs to embrace change. Overall it created an inclusive environment that is welcoming to all.
The general atmosphere was always very friendly and I really got along with my full team making it a fun environment to come to work.

Overall Experience

To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
I really enjoyed my placement here. I feel like it has gave me strong direction for what I want to do in the future. Talent Acquisition was never an area I thought I would want to go into thinking it was purely reading CVs everyday. Since then I've learnt just how strategic and business oriented it is which I've enjoyed as it's allowed me to push myself and develop lots of new skills. I would fully recommend a placement at Disney and within the Talent Acquisition team.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend The Walt Disney Company to a friend?
Yes
What advice would you give to others applying to The Walt Disney Company
I think to make sure you're well prepared for your interviews having already thought of particular past scenarios that can really demonstrate what skills you posses. Then just to be yourself during your interviews. Disney's theme is all about storytelling and therefore the business is always looking to find diverse people who are authentic and honest who can contribute to that Disney story line no matter what line of business you work in. For me this meant looking past any impostor syndrome I previously had coming from a non-Russell-group university and realising I can perform the job just as well as anyone else can.
