Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

My role consists of a daily involvement in engineering works related to responding to any breakdowns that occur with our machinery, as well as daily maintenance that needs to be completed on each machine. I'm also building my skills and knowledge everyday and learning as much as i can.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

Over the last 3 years i have thoroughly enjoyed the apprenticeship and being able to meet so many knowledgeable engineers and learn from them. I also enjoyed my time in sheffield where i lived for 6 months to complete the basic training, in which i got to know the other apprentices in my years intake very well and develop good friendships.
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

During my 6 month training period in Sheffield, I started to develop my engineering skills as i previously had no knowledge of any related subjects. I was able to develop my hand fitting skills and my ability to communicate efficiently with my colleagues, as the apprenticeship has helped me become more confident in my abilities.
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

The apprenticeship is very well structured, featuring a 6 month block of training in sheffield with one day a month being reserved to return to work get used to where we will be working in the future. Followed by 6 months of working on site, with one day a week reserved for college work and online lessons.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

Support is always available from both my employer and the AMRC, which is frequently reiterated to me to ensure that I'm getting all the help I need and that I'm in a good place in terms of my progress with my college work and overall how I'm feeling.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

Support is always there at the AMRC if im struggling, and if i ever fall behind, my trainers and coaches are there to support me and provide a plan to get me back on track
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

I think that the qualification covers the more "theoretical" side of my role such as electrical equations and how certain things function, which in turn helps me understand tasks better overall.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

Some colleagues put together groups where a number of us get together and go out or go go-karting etc. Which helps with team building and developing relationships with colleagues

Very good place to work in terms of the experience you will acquire and the people you will meet. It is also one of the largest companies in the world, which will help build your reputation if you look for other places to work in the future.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Unilever?
The interview process may seem quite daunting but it is well worth the effort, the interviewers are all lovely people and will help you see where you lack in certain areas and where youre strong, helping you develop overall character.
