Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.

Working within a team to complete daily tasks that either help the teams tasks or are intern roles which are more general tasks.

Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?

Yes, if I did not complete my tasks they wouldn't be completed at all, affecting the team. There is the perfect amount of responsibility so that you feel needed as you aren't just doing pointless time filling jobs, but at the same time its not too much and isn't overwhelming.

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?

I have learnt so many technical skills as well as soft skills. I have been able to put theoretical university knowledge into practice while using new software and tools, soft skills include organisation and working to deadlines as well as confidence and knowledge of how a large company runs and how the smaller teams fits together.

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?

Constant support and guidance is provided, with anyone in the team happy to help with queries, also there are regular team meetings and one-to-ones with your manager so that you always have someone to talk to and who can help whether it be about personal or work related things.

Company Culture

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?

While it is a massive company, I worked within a small team of around 12 people, this meant that we got to know each other well. Out of work meals and meet ups were arranged and there have also been company-wide events and activities at different times of the year such as an Olympics themed event and Christmas ones.

Overall Experience

To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?

It was an incredibly useful and enjoyable placement. It gave me the experience of working in a full time job as part of a team. I learnt even more than I had thought I would do and it surpassed my expectations in so many different ways. The people were lovely within my team and also throughout the business. I would definitely go back.

What advice would you give to others applying to GE Aerospace

Don't be worried or scared about being a large company, as you will be appreciated fully. The interview process is straight forward and complete it to your best ability making sure that you show your knowledge and personality. Do some research into the company so you know what they do and what their goals and aims are for the future and most importantly, be yourself!
