Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
3/5
Yr1-3, I rotated across all business sectors, ebfore returning to Wales and West Delivery. Yr4, daily I interface with clients, manage work packages, plan and complete projects and assist the project manager. One a week I attend Uni
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
2/5
To an extent. The University course is about building straight forward projects, where as Rail is a complex industry, so I struggled making sound comparisons until my knowledge began to grow

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
3/5
Learnt lots of new skills, built my confidence having never worked in Railway, managed projects, networked and made amazing contacts of all ages. Skills include, planning, public speaking, leadership, team motivation and more

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
2/5
It wasn't to begin with. I had to actively search for and organise placements, leaving my demotivated throughout the first few years. As I gained confidence, I could stand up for myself more and ensure my programme benefited myself
How much support do you receive from your employer?
3/5
It depends on who you ask. In this job the support is available, but if you chose not to reach out/you are naturally more quiet, it's very easy to slip through the gaps. I found it mediocre, and it improved.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
Uni of cumrbia were amazing with support, offering help session, revision sessions, summer schools and the cohort I was in was excellent
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
Once I could apply it to my role, quite well, but it took me a while to understand the differences in industry and apply correctly
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
3/5
I looked for the Professional networking opportunities, so yes. But social wise there are region events and entry level talent events too

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Siemens to a friend?
Yes
Why?
While I struggled to get to grips, I have used the opportunities and networks created to create a career for myself at a young age. Others can do the same, but you will need to put yourself out there to succeed.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Siemens?
Be yourself, research the company, complete extracurriculars, volunteer, show leadership, answer the questions asked, research the job, add apprentices on linkedin, assess the location, look up whether is Siemens or SMO (mobility) hiring and tailor accordingly, have fun and show off you achievements!
