Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

To test and prepare equipment and machinery for use in shipbuilding. The role involves 3 days on site and 2 days at college.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I really enjoy the programme as you get a mix of education as well as hands on experience in the workplace.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have learnt several new skills since starting my role. For example, my IT skills have greatly improved as well as my confidence when speaking to new individuals. I have also learnt many new practical skills as a result of getting hands on experience in the workplace.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

The programme is well structured as you gain a PEO in first year, a HNC in the second year and a HND in the 3-4th year. However, the course has been quite heavily affected by college strikes however this is out with the company's control.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

We receive a good amount of support from our employer especially when there is college strikes as we go on site on the strike days.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

We receive a good amount of support from our training provider however the college strikes have caused major disruption.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

The qualification helps us perform better in our role by giving us a basic understanding of how to use certain tools and equipment. However, some of the units in the PEO are more relevant to our role than others.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

The are some extra-curricular activities to get involved in at work such at team night outs etc.
